We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of our 2023 Open Day, dedicated to Refugee Week and World Refugee Day. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the unwavering support of 350 individuals made this event truly exceptional.

The marquee was filled with captivating performances, featuring the talents of our very own St Augustine's Music Makers, live world music, a choir, poetry recitals, and impressive Judo demonstrations. The dedication and talent displayed by these performers were truly remarkable.

We extend a special acknowledgement to our volunteer chefs, who prepared a feast and served over 300 delicious meals. In addition to the mouthwatering dishes, our centre members contributed homemade treats and sweets from around the world, showcasing the rich culinary diversity of our community.

Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to explore our services, represented through informative tours and stalls. These encompassed a range of offerings, including the Free Shop, salon, bike project, tech repair, English classes, Befriending services, welfare and immigration support, arts and crafts activities, sports programs, the welcoming café, gardening initiatives, and engaging family activities. Furthermore, we were delighted to collaborate with esteemed partners such as Light Up BAHC, Halifax Opportunity Trust, Together We Grow, Healthy Minds, Calderdale College, Invictus Wellbeing, Star Boxing Club, and Valley of Sanctuary.

We reserve a special round of applause for the remarkable year 6 students of Copley Primary School. Despite the challenging weather conditions, they bravely undertook a fundraising walk to St Augustine's, demonstrating their commitment and compassion. Not only did they complete their walk, but they also immersed themselves in the music, sampled our global cuisine, and actively participated in various activities. Well done, Copley students, and our sincere appreciation to your teachers for their guidance and support.

We are also pleased to announce that Gerard Liston has beautifully captured moments from the day through his photography. An exhibition curated by him, featuring photos and stories of ten members from the St Augustine's Centre, can be enjoyed at the Temperance Movement Café located at 16-18 Market St, Halifax, HX1 1NX. The exhibition will be open from 8 am to 4 pm until July 16th.
