Last weekend, our Walk & Talk group explored Ogden Water Nature Reserve, on a 5-mile journey along the reservoir, onto the wild hills, and through the winding woods.

During the walk, our group - who are all from different nations, ethnicities, religions, and walks of life - held a minute's silence to commemorate the lives that have been lost in the current Israel-Palestine conflict and the Middle East region. They stood together in remembrance of all those who have died, been harmed, become displaced, lost loved ones, and continue to suffer as a result of this needless conflict.

On reflection, a centre member who joined the walk wrote a poem about the day and the group's vigil.

I had the most incredible walk with some amazing people surrounded by the breathtaking sights of nature near a serene lake. As we strolled along, we came across the stunning brown hues of dead heedha flowers. It reminded me of the cycle of life and the beauty that lies even in the impermanence of things.

But amidst this tranquility, my thoughts shifted to a different reality. I couldn't help but think about the turmoil and violence that plague some parts of our world. While I stood there, the sight of colossal wind turbines spinning gracefully in the distance reminded me of the importance of peace and quiet in our lives.

In that moment, my mind wandered to a place far away – to Gaza. In my imagination, I briefly transported myself to a land torn apart by conflict. There, the air was filled not with the refreshing breaths of peace, but with the noxious fumes of violence, bombs, blood, and smoke.

The unbearable scenes of bodies and blood strewn across the streets penetrated my heart. The pain, suffering, and loss experienced by innocent lives shattered my soul. It reminded me of the profound truth that no one deserves to have their life taken away, regardless of their religion, culture, or beliefs.

Let us recognize that we are all part of the same human family. We must strive for understanding, unity, and compassion, rather than perpetuating hatred and violence.

Today, I am sending out a plea. A plea for peace, for empathy, and for the end of senseless killings. Let us hold onto the belief that every life is precious and deserves to be cherished. It is through our collective efforts that we can create a world where no one feels the horrors of violence and bloodshed.

Join me in spreading love, understanding, and compassion. Let us be the change we wish to see in the world. Together, let's strive for a future where every individual, regardless of their religion or culture, can walk freely without fear.

Our message is simple: compassion, empathy, and love triumph over hate, anger, and conflict. Join us and call for peace.
